In this article, we'll explain how to change your device to receive two-factor authentication (2FA) codes using an Authenticator App. The approach described below will only work if you have access to the device that is currently generating the 2FA codes. If your phone is lost or damaged, use a backup code to regain access to your account, or request to disable 2FA.

Step 1: Disable 2FA for the current device

  1. Log in to your account using the 2FA code generated by the current device.

  2. Go to the Security tab in the Profile menu.

  3. Click Disable next to the Authenticator App method.

4. Enter 2FA code to confirm

Note: After disabling 2FA, we suspend withdrawals on your account for 48 hours. This is an extra measure to keep your account data and funds safe.

Step 2: Enable 2FA method with the new device

  1. Download a trusted Authenticator App to your new device.

  2. On the CEX.IO Security page, click Enable next to the Authenticator App method.

3. Open the Authenticator and click the β€œ+” sign to add the new record.

4. Scan the QR code using the Authenticator app, or enter the code manually to link your CEX.IO account.

5. Download and save your 2FA backup key. With this key, you can change the device to receive 2FA codes or restore access to your account.

6. Enter the code generated by the Authenticator App to confirm 2FA is enabled.

Then, ensure that the new 2FA method works properly and that the Authenticator App not generating duplicate records.

After that, delete the CEX.IO account record from the Authenticator App on your old device:

  1. Select 2FA code in the Authenticator App on your old device.
