Two-factor authentication, or 2FA, is an extra layer of security that helps keep your account and funds secure. When 2FA is enabled, you are required to enter a one-time password to log into your account. This extra layer of security prevents anyone except you from accessing your account and funds.

2FA is a security measure that protects users from security leaks. By default, the first factor used to authenticate a person’s identity is a username and password. 2FA works like another line of defense against hackers, phishers, and bad actors by requiring another piece of information after using the right username and password. The second factor can include something you know (security questions), something you have (a temporary pin number texted to your phone), or something you are (biometric devices).

We at CEX.IO are working diligently to ensure that all accounts are protected. For this reason, we recommend all of our users implement 2FA into their CEX.IO account. Please note that 2FA is mandatory when making withdrawals with your CEX.IO account.

You can enable 2FA on your CEX.IO account by using your phone number or a special authenticator app (iOS, Android). You can choose one of the two methods to activate 2FA. But we recommend enabling both phone and authenticator methods at the same time to make your account even more secure. When both 2FA methods are enabled simultaneously, you can choose which method you would like to use to authenticate your login.

How to enable 2FA on your CEX.IO account:

  • Log in to your CEX.IO account

  • Find the profile icon in the top right corner to access the Profile page. From there, select the Security tab.

  • Click Enable next to the 2FA options

Text message/Phone method

This type of 2FA provides a code via SMS messages. You should have a valid phone number to activate this option.

To enable 2FA via the SMS option:

  • Choose your country and enter your phone number

  • Enter the 2FA code you received via text message. Then click Enable.

At the next step, you will see the confirmation that the Phone 2FA method is enabled.

Authenticator app method

To turn on 2FA using the smartphone app:

  • Install Google Authenticator app (iOS, Android) if you don’t have it

  • Scan the QR code with the Google Authenticator app to link your CEX.IO account.

  • Download and save your 2FA secret code. With this code, you can change the device that receives 2FA codes. Besides, it allows you to restore access to your account if you lose your phone.

  • Enter the 6-digit code generated by the Authenticator app and enable 2FA.

Now your account is protected with the Authenticator 2FA option.
