Account Verification Guide for App: Identity Verification

Our identity verification process keeps CEX.IO secure for everyone and lets you buy, sell, and trade crypto with confidence. This process ensures compliance with international KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) regulations.

Identity verification serves two crucial purposes: it enhances user and transaction security by preventing unauthorised account access, and it enables regulatory compliance for secure interactions with financial institutions. All verification steps are designed to ensure the authenticity of fund origins and destinations.

Before proceeding, please ensure your country of residence is supported by CEX.IO.

Before you start: download the CEX.IO App

To complete account verification, you'll need to download the CEX.IO App.

You can use either your smartphone or tablet that runs on the required iOS or Android operating system.

Log in to your account in the CEX.IO App

Log in to your CEX.IO account with your email and password. If you haven’t created an account yet, you can proceed with registration by tapping on the Create your account button.

As an unverified customer, you’ll see a welcome screen inviting you to start identity verification right away. Tap the Verify Now button to start.

Identity Verification Steps

During the verification process, you’ll need to provide information about your identity, such as name, date of birth, and country of residence. To help speed things along, have your identity document ready. We accept the following documents:

  • An international passport

  • A government-issued national ID card

  • A driver’s license

Ensure the document is valid, internationally recognised, and has Latin characters or Latin transliteration of the main fields.

Step 1: Specify your residential address

  1. Tap on the Country and choose the one where you’re currently living. Сheck the list of unsupported countries here.

  2. Enter your ZIP code. Please make sure to indicate a valid ZIP code that confirms your location. If ZIP codes are not used in your country, please enter 000000 instead.

  3. Provide the province/state, city, and street address.

Please note that U.S. regulations require that we collect a Social Security Number (SSN) from all U.S. residents.

Double-check the information provided, then tap Continue.

Step 2: Upload your ID

1. Specify the country that issued your document.

2. Choose the type of your document. The document must follow our requirements:

  • The acceptable documents are a National ID card, an International passport, and a Driver’s license.

  • The document should be internationally recognised and not expired.

  • Check that it’s issued with Latin characters, or with Latin transliteration of the main fields.

3. Tap Upload your document.

Step 3: Upload the front side of your Identity Document

1. Take a photo of the front side of your document:

  • Place the document on a flat surface with good light.

  • Align the document within the frame, ensuring all edges are visible.

  • Hold the camera steady above the document, keeping it parallel to avoid distortion.

  • Ensure the text is clear and fully visible.

  • Take a picture when everything is aligned properly.

2. Verify that the information on the document is readable so our system can scan and recognise your data.

  • Click Continue to proceed, or Re-take if the document is unreadable.

3. Repeat the same actions with the back side of your document if required.

Step 4: Check your information

The information will be auto-filled from your document snapshot. Please double-check the spelling and details. If something is wrong, correct the information manually or fill in the missing fields. Click Continue to confirm.

Step 5: Complete the facial recognition check

The next step after providing the information on your identity document is taking a selfie. Click “Go” to take a selfie.

For a smooth process:

  • Make sure your face is bright and clearly visible on the screen.

  • Put your face in the centre of the picture and align it inside the frame.

  • Take off anything that covers your face, like hats or sunglasses.

  • Don't smile or frown too much.

  • Hold the camera at the same level as your eyes.

You may be asked to blink, smile, or turn your head to pass the check.

Step 6: Complete questionnaire*

CEX.IO asks users for the source of their funds to meet legal requirements and ensure the security of its platform. This practice helps prevent illegal activities like money laundering and fraud.

Answer the following short questions. Once done, click Next in the upper right.

* This step only applies to customers from specific countries due to regulatory requirements.

Enjoy your crypto journey!

Your application will be automatically reviewed for quick approval. If everything was submitted accurately, you should receive a prompt notice that your account has been verified.

Tap Continue to proceed.

You are all done and may enjoy your crypto journey with CEX.IO! If you've recently regained access to your account, enhanced verification measures may be necessary to secure it further. These can include:

  1. Submitting a Verification Video: This video confirms your ownership of the account.

  2. Deactivating Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): You may need to deactivate and reset your 2FA for better security.

  3. Providing Screenshots of Unlinked Devices: To ensure that no unauthorised devices are linked to your account.

What to do if I haven't passed the verification process

In some cases, your verification application may be automatically declined. Here are some tips to help you fix common issues without the need to contact the Support Team:

  • Make sure that the submitted document is issued with Latin transliteration.

  • Check that your document is up-to-date and the signature is clearly visible.

  • Make sure that the submitted photos are clear and visible.

  • Check if your country allows using our platform. The list of unsupported countries can be found here.

  • Avoid having multiple CEX.IO accounts. If you have previously created an alternate account, please contact the Support Team via live chat.

If you’re ready to begin the verification process again, click Try again. This will reset your information, allowing you to submit new data and photos. If you prefer to start verification later, you can do this later.
