Identity and Address Verification on CEX.IO

Before you start the verification process, prepare all the necessary documents:

- An international passport/national ID card/driver’s license. This document should be valid and internationally recognized. Check that it’s issued with Latin characters or with Latin transliteration of the main fields.

- A piece of paper and a pen.

- Your tax identification number (or social security number if you’re residing in the US).

To complete the verification, follow through the stages and the steps below.

 

Here is a video description of the process followed by text explanation: 

Stage 1. Identity Verification 

Block 1. Country of residence

Pick your country from the drop-down list and select your state/province.

- If you’re a US resident, also indicate the county and your social security number (SSN).

- If you’re not a US resident and you have a tax identification number (TIN), please specify it. If you don’t have a TIN, uncheck the box and press Next.

Block 2. Identity proof

Step 1. Proof of identity document

Indicate which document you will use. It can be an international passport, an identity card, or a driver’s license. Then provide a photo of a document.

Note! For driver’s licenses and ID cards, photos of both sides of the document (the front and the back) are necessary.

Step 2. Photos of an identity document

Option 1. Take photos with your mobile device

Scan the QR code on your screen with your smartphone. Alternatively, you can copy the link and insert it in the browser of your mobile phone. After you've done so, take a photo of your document with the mobile phone and check whether all elements are clear. If they are, tap It’s readable. If they aren’t, Retake the photo.

Option 2. Upload files

Otherwise, please upload photos from your computer. Press Add photo and select the file on your computer or simply drag and drop a photo from your computer to the browser. Supported formats are PDF, PNG, JPG, and GIF.

After you’ve added the file, confirm that all details are clear.

Step 3. Selfie with a document

 

Take a photo in which you’re holding the identity document you provided in Step 2 along with a handwritten note that contains the text “I'm a CEX.IO customer, current date, signature”. As in the previous step, you can choose either to take a selfie with your mobile device or to upload a file from your computer. 

Make sure that:

- the note is handwritten;

- the note and the document are in Latin characters;

- the note contains the current date;

- the document has your signature;

- all text is visible;

- you’re looking straight at the camera;

- the background is a light, neutral colour;

- the photo is in colour;

- there are no red eyes;

- you aren’t wearing accessories (e.g. sunglasses, a hat, or a headband).

After you’ve submitted a high-quality photo, you can turn back to your computer (if you’ve taken the photos with your phone). If you were uploading photos from your computer, you’ll be redirected to the next step.

Step 4. Personal information

Indicate your gender and fill in the respective fields with your first name, middle name (if applicable), and last name, nationality, as well as date and place of birth.

Step 5. Identity document details

Finally, fill in information from your identity document: serial number, date of issue, issuing country, and expiry date (if there is one). Confirm that you’ve provided the correct data.

Now you’re halfway towards completing the verification application.

Stage 2. Address verification

To complete your verification request, you now need to pass Address Verification. Press on the Address Verification stage and then press Ok, let’s go.

Block 1. Address confirmation

Step 1. Proof of address document

To begin, provide a photo of a document that confirms your current address. We accept utility and electricity bills, bank statements, tax return documents, and any other documents with your address as well as your first and last name. Before submitting the document, please make sure that the document was issued within the last three months. If you choose to provide a document that isn’t on the list, you should specify what type of document it is.

The two main requirements are:

- the document must be in Latin characters or have Latin transliteration;

- the document must contain the credentials of the institution (e.g. logo), your first and last name, and your residential address on one page.

In the drop-down menu, pick the type of document you’ll provide.

Step 2. Photo of a document

As you did before, choose to scan the QR code with your mobile phone to take a photo. Alternatively, you can copy the link and insert it in the browser of your mobile phone. Otherwise, upload a photo/scan from your computer. Supported files are PDF, PNG, JPG, or GIF format.

Step 3. Additional pages

As soon as you’ve submitted a photo of proper quality and confirmed it’s readable, you’ll be able to upload more pages if necessary. If you have nothing more to upload, press Next to continue.

Step 4. Residence address

At this step, indicate your residential address: street address, apartment/suite, city, zip code, state/province, and country. US residents will also be asked to indicate the county.

Block 2. Social network profiles

Here, you can provide links to your social network profiles to increase your chance of verification approval. You’re encouraged to leave a link to at least one of your social media profiles. This can be Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, as well as any other social network profile or a website.

If you’re not willing to link to any social media profiles, skip this step by pressing Next, and your application will be sent.

Once your application has been processed, you’ll see whether you’ve been approved in the Verification section.

Next stages: Enhanced and Corporate Verification

There are two more verification levels, Enhanced and Corporate. After passing them, users get higher deposit and withdrawal limits as well as priority support by dedicated managers.

Moving through these stages requires providing additional information, and you can learn which exact documents are necessary by choosing desired type on the verification screen

    So the compliance officer asks me to upload a PDF.  I do, but then the site throws me this error, "file type not allowed application/octet-stream"... looks like we got a mime issue on the webServer CEX.io.

     

    Please figure this out because the 6 jpgs I uploaded keep getting rejected and I am being asked specifically for a PDF!?

    It can work instead of residence proof. For ID it is required to have a document with your photo on it.

    My ID verification reset from 3 years ago so i had to do it again..

    today i have uploaded my...

    drivers license

    debit card

    me and my drivers license

    me and my debit card

    social security card

    me and my social security card in hand....

    a bank statement

    and even my birth certificate in an email...


    I used to have this account verified and my SAME DEBIT CARD was already used in the past..
    Support does not help me at all.. I've been on cex.io since 2013 or 2014 what is going on here..
