How to Find Your Tax Identification Number (TIN): A Quick Guide by Country for EU/UK Users

Written by Rick Alexsson

When verifying your CEX.IO account to comply with new European (DAC8) and international regulations, you will be asked to provide your Tax Identification Number (TIN).

Because every country calls the Tax Identification Number (TIN) by a different local name and uses a unique format, we have created this simple guide to help you find exactly what you need based on where you pay taxes.

💡 Tips for a Smooth Submission:

  1. Where to find it: Your tax number is usually printed directly on your national ID card, passport, driver's license, payslips, or official tax returns.

  2. Type carefully: Do not type spaces, dashes, or hyphens when entering your number. Enter it as one continuous string.

  3. Use Uppercase: If your tax number contains letters, always write them in capital letters (e.g., use `A` instead of `a`).

  4. Why accurate formatting matters: Our system automatically scans your number against your country's official structure. Typing a random or placeholder number (like `123456`) will cause an error, flag your profile, and lead to temporary account restrictions.
